Medical Architecture named supplier on NHS Property Services Framework

Medical Architecture has been renamed as a supplier on the renewed NHS Property Services Framework for Architectural Services, in all four of its regional lots.

The four regional lots are designated as North, Midlands, London, and South.

As an appointed supplier, we can continue our work with NHS Property Services to evaluate and deliver new healthcare environments, unlocking latent potential across their £3bn estate. This will be achieved through a co-ordinated strategy of improvement and renewal, creating quality environments for clinical services, often whilst releasing surplus land for housing, generating capital for reinvestment. The framework agreement will run for a four-year period.

Our work with NHS Property Services began in 2015 with the redevelopment of Whitby Hospital. Completed in 2021, this project transformed an inefficient and underutilised 1970s community hospital into an integrated and patient-centred healthcare facility. Surplus land was created for further development options, including a future extra care facility or housing.

Following this, in 2022 we delivered the redevelopment of Guisborough Primary Care Hospital — a complex reorganisation and refurbishment of existing buildings to create a modern healthcare environment for the local community. Consolidation of the accommodation enabled parts of the two neighbouring sites to be adapted for alternative uses.

Shortly after in 2023, we completed a feasibility study for the redevelopment of the St Patrick’s Centre in Birmingham, consolidating an existing health centre and releasing land for alternative uses.

Today, we continue our partnership with NHS Property Services, working on the design of Shotley Bridge Community Hospital in County Durham, a project prioritised in ‘Wave 1’ of the NHS New Hospital Programme.

We are delighted to be appointed to this latest iteration of the NHS Property Services Framework, continuing our ten-year partnership on a wide range of community healthcare projects. We believe in using design to promote a person-focused, preventative approach to community health, and we look forward to exploring the potential for this in new parts of the NHS estate.
